It's so true. I like the short hair. To me, it looks cool. In the end, as you said, it's whatever you want. It's just extra. Either way, I enjoyed how this came together. I've been reading more works, and I keep understanding them. It makes sense. You get me to think and look. That's the writer's job. You did it. You got me to think.
I enjoy your writing and I feel a kind of kindred spirit because of our backgrounds. I think your hair looks great any way you choose to do it. It’s funny you should talk about hair because I’m kinda going through a hair crisis myself. So I was a manufacturing manager and I dutifully went in for my regular barbershop 💈 haircut for like 30 years. Mostly to the same barber. So I wanted it kinda short but over the years the barber sort of morphed my haircut into a military looking flattop. And when I realized it I told him I didn’t want to look like I was heading to Iraq but when I left I invariably looked the same. So when I finally left that town the first thing I told my new barber was NO FLATTOP, and he didn’t but it was still short. So one day I was sitting there in the barbershop patiently waiting my turn and I said to myself, why am I doing this. And I don’t go to that barber anymore. And I’m still searching for the right look for myself. But it’s definitely not short. And it’s strange how a grown man would struggle to tell a barber that he didn’t want his hair so short. Such an easy thing for a “normal” person but so difficult for me. But I’m learning. And it is so liberating to finally be discovering who I am and giving myself permission to be that person. Maybe I’ll dye my hair green and pierce my eyebrow. That would certainly shock my Sunday School class. Thank you for what you do and you’re an amazing writer and a “fellow traveler.”
I'm also a lifelong member of the tender headed club. For women, hair can be so weighted - even when it's in a pixie. Loved how you distilled your hair journey into your personal evolution. I recently wrote about all the hairdos and don'ts I've had in my life. My piece was more about the funny than the familial, but oh the stories we can all tell through our hair histories.
Aw Leslie!! I need to read your piece!! I saw that come through and was drawn to it. Thank you for the reminder. I’ve been so busy and very far behind. I’m going to save it for my plane ride ❤️. Thank you, my tender headed sister💋
Ha! I'm no astrologer. As I was writing Aries, I thought, Libra? Somewhere in between. Virgos are known for their integrity, duty, and offensive honesty — not rebelliousness. But your rising sign is supposed to be your worldly persona — right? I'm Aquarius, Cancer, Pisces.
Haha you didn’t know you’d be thrown three signs. And actually, I’m a cusp Virgo. So Libra truly isn’t far off... close anyway, but I get confused as a Libra a lot because I’m so numerically close. And I often wonder where my rebel comes from.. nature or the fact that I had to fight so much to be heard or seen… or, you know. Just fight ;-)
And your rising sign is essentially how you present to the world, like your mask. And Leo tracks with me because I’m a natural introvert but you wouldn’t know it because I know how to turn it on.
Moon sign is your emotions and who you are when you’re alone..
That’s so kind of you. Yes. I’ve healed a lot over the past 5 years, and though I do feel completely ‘cured’, l don’t believe we’re ever finished in anything. I appreciate the observation ❤️
I relate so much to this. I wish I had the guts to go as short as you have. You really have the perfect face shape and beautiful features for short hair and as you eluded to, it's all about the confidence to rock it! I could not handle other people combing out my thick curls as a kid. I had to do it since around age 4. My mom gave up. Then the back and forth of hating my curls and getting made fun of and really owning them later on.
First of all, your hair is gorgeous!!! One of my best girlfriends has 3c curls and relaxes it now because she couldn’t take it. Thickest hair I’ve ever seen in my life! You have beautiful hair and a beautiful face to go with it ;-).
Second of all, thank you! It’s interesting how much hair “matters” when it really shouldn’t. I grew up with it being such a big deal. I’m glad to not have my identify wrapped up in it anymore❤️
Ha! The Sega era. You look great in any haircut, but i must say the short hair does look great on you. I've never really thought to much about my hair. The last few years I had Thor (a dogpupgrumpypuppyboy) i realized he got groomed more than I got my hair cut so I timed my grooming with his. Back in the way back, i went from skater bangs, liberty spike Mohawk, then just went long then crusty punk dread locks for a few years. Then I cut the dread locks and my formally straight full bodied hair went curly! Like super curley. Died ot black kept it short in the rest of the 90's. Hitting 30 i said fuck it and just keep it managed.
Sure i got body, but once it grows out it's the old theme of man vs. Hair replayed a few times of year cause my hair grows super fast. Thanks for the article, makes me think about my own style or lack there of. :)
This was great. I really enjoy your writing style! This piece reminds me of the time I wanted to surprise my wife with a new look, so I trimmed her hair up while she was sleeping so she could wake up to a really nice new haircut. (Of course this isn’t true!)

I love a great hair story! Yours is FAB! It’s great to connect.
Ahh!! Thank you, Maureen!! I’m so happy to connect too. Thank you so much for reading!

Your biggest fan,

You do whatever you want to do!! Green and pierced. Anything! You be you, Dale. All of it is perfect❤️

Very heartfelt post, thank you. Abbey, are you born under the Sun sign of Aries by any chance?
Hi! Thank you so much. I’m a Virgo sun. Gemini moon and Leo rising

Those you mentioned are your sun / moon / rising?
Oh, and it sounds like this is a time of healing for you.

Cancer rising, moon in Pisces, Capricorn-Aquarius cusp (0° Aquarius). Now I just like to stay anonymous.

Haha you got the Sega reference. And thank you! Everyone has a style. Even if it’s the choice to not hyper-focus on something. That’s a style!
This was great. I really enjoy your writing style! This piece reminds me of the time I wanted to surprise my wife with a new look, so I trimmed her hair up while she was sleeping so she could wake up to a really nice new haircut. (Of course this isn’t true!)
loved all of your styles though the years!
Hahaha Billy!! You always make me smile. Thank you❤️
I figured I better come clean because that might get me on some hate lists. 😂
Love it! Per usual.
